Automotive Controller – Roanoke, VA

Pay: $100,000/year (Full-Time, Exempt)

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00am–5:00pm

Position Summary

Express Employment Professionals is seeking an experienced Automotive Controller to oversee all financial and accounting operations for a reputable dealership in the Roanoke area. The Controller will ensure accurate financial reporting, maintain internal controls, and provide key insights to leadership to support profitability and compliance across departments.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• • Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements in compliance with GAAP and manufacturer requirements.
• • Oversee general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and reconciliation processes.
• • Manage dealership cash flow, floor-plan accounts, and vendor payments.
• • Work closely with department managers (sales, service, parts, F&I) to monitor budgets and performance.
• • Ensure timely tax reporting, manufacturer reporting, and audit readiness.
• • Supervise accounting staff, provide coaching, and maintain a culture of accuracy and accountability.
• • Identify financial trends, risks, and opportunities to improve operational efficiency.
• • Assist with annual audits, budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis for dealership leadership.

Qualifications & Skills

• • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred).
• • 5+ years of experience in dealership accounting or finance, including Controller-level responsibility.
• • Knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, and dealership operations.
• • Experience with CDK, Reynolds & Reynolds, or other dealership management software.
• • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial reporting tools.
• • Strong analytical, leadership, and communication skills.
• • High attention to detail and ability to meet strict deadlines.
