The Courthouse Police Sergeant is a commissioned law enforcement position. The Police Sergeant provides and overseas Policing and Safety Services for the 18th Judicial District Courthouses, Sedgwick County physical properties, employees, and the citizens. Police Sergeants are front-line level supervisors who perform the same duties of a Courthouse Police Officer. In addition, creates schedules for/and guides, directs, and mentors their subordinates. The Courthouse Police Sergeant works under the direction of the Police Lieutenant.
Provide front-line supervision and oversee the daily operations of commissioned and non-commissioned police officers.
Oversee and ensure commissioned and non-commissioned officers respond to Roving Patrols in and around the Courthouses and other Sedgwick County complexes.
Provide Policing and Safety Services, by scheduling a uniformed presence in the 18th Judicial District Court/ Court Dockets, to deter disruptions, confrontations and illegal activities from occurring.
Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or Equivalent. Four years of experience in Law Enforcement. One year of experience in Business or Public Administration. Up to two years of experience may be substituted with education that provides applicable knowledge and skills. Currently certified Law Enforcement Officer under KSCPOST, or must certify within 120 days. Must be a United States Citizen. Must be 21 years or older. Candidate can have no record of criminal conviction, diversion, or expungement of any felony or crime of dishonesty, or the equivalent under the uniform code of military justice. Per Sedgwick County Policy, this is a driving level position that requires a valid US driver’s license without restrictions and current automobile insurance.
Preferred Qualifications: Ten years of law enforcement experience. Five years of law enforcement supervisor experience. Customer Service skills and experience. Bachelor Degree in Criminal Justice or related field.
